Frédéric Malle

Perfume is a part of me, something innate and compelling; an obsession. Perfumery is art; a perfume can be a painting, a book, a work of art.

Frédéric Malle was born into a family of French entrpreneurs, artists and perfumers.
His grandfather, Serge Hefler-Louiche, founded Parfums Christian Dior, an icon of French perfumery; his mother took over the business from her father, branching out into the world of make-up and skincare. At a time when the majority of perfume houses were prioritizing brand image and celebrity endorsements, Frédéric Malle turned his attention back to what was most important of all: the product itself. When he set up Editions de Parfums in 2000, he brought quality niche perfumery back into the spotlight.

Since then he has been working closely with the most skilled perfume designers of our time, taking on the role of “editor” to his “authors”.
His aim is to support them as they create their dream fragrances and to encourage them to compose true masterpieces. The idea for his brand grew from a desire to give full creative freedom to perfume designers. As a perfume editor, Frédéric Malle works together with the greatest perfumers giving them complete creative freedom: the finest raw materials are at their disposal and they are free from deadlines for creating their fragrances. The creations are presented in matching Bauhaus style bottles, like simple frames housing true works of art.
For the first time in the history of the perfume house, each bottle displays the signature of the perfume designer behind its creation.
